Framing the Future

A symposium exploring the potential of Web3 technologies to solve big global challenges

Through a series of talks, debates, and workshops over 4 days we attempted to move beyond the hype of NFTs and Bitcoin to have a nuanced conversation about the future potential of Web3.

We heard from NGOs, charities, think tanks, and tech companies at the cutting-edge.

All discussing the risks, ethics, and potential benefits of Web3 technologies to inform future work and policy.

Briefing Notes

from the Frontier Technologies Hub

This paper offers some background reading for the project.

We focus on four key characteristics of what Web3 has to offer. For each one we have tried to pull out the nuances and delve into the grey areas so that we can understand and imagine the futures they might result in.

About

We are the Frontier Technologies Hub, working with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to apply frontier technologies to the biggest challenges in international development.

Over the last few months we’ve been speculating about the potential of Web3 technologies for solving global challenges. Working with three partner organisations, Careful Industries, Phas3, and Pluriversa to explore what the future might hold, so we can inform actions and policies in the present.

This symposium is the next step in that work. We want to broaden the conversation out to a global audience.

The Frontier Technologies Hub is managed by a consortium of partners: Results for Development (R4D), DT Global and Brink.
